Museums in Ueno Park

Hello, everyone.


It’s one month left on 2018, and it’s getting cold day by day.


Our hostel is located 15 minutes away from Ueno Park.

There is a zoo which is famous by Pandas in Ueno Park, but there are also some museums in the park.

I’ll show you museums in Ueno Park today.


1.The Tokyo National Museum

The Tokyo National Museum is the largest and one of 4 National Museums in Japan, others are located in Kyoto, Nara and Kyushu. The museum collects and displays the collection of art works and antiquities from Japan and Asia which is made up of over 117,000 items including 89 National Treasures.

Hours: 9:30 to 17:00 (until 20:00 on most Fridays, until 18:00 on most weekends and holidays). Special exhibitions may have longer opening hours on selected days. Admission ends 30 minutes before closing.

Closed: Mondays (or the following day if Monday is a holiday), New Year holidays.

2. The National Museum of Western Art

The National Museum of Western Art, which is only national museum focused on western art, collects over 4,500 items including Monet, Gauguin, Renoir, Rubes, Millet and Rodin which is based on Matsukata collection. The main building that was designed by Le Corbusier who was famous french Architect, was listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List on 2016.

Hours: 9:30 to 17:30 (until 20:00 on Fri and Sat)

Closed: Mondays (or following day if Mon is a holiday), Dec 28 to Jan 1

3.The National Science Museum of Nature and Science

The National Science Museum of Nature and Science is one of the biggest science museum in Japan. There are two buildings called Nihonkan(Japan Gallery) and Chikyukan(Global Gallery). Exhibits include the stuffed body of Hachiko and two famous pandas, a fragment of the Nantan meteorite that hit China in the 16th century, an original World War II fighter plane, and much more.

Hours: 9:00 to 17:00 (until 20:00 on Fri and Sat; admission ends 30 minutes before closing)

Closed: Mondays (or following day if Mon is a holiday), Dec 28 to Jan 1

Each museum is enough huge as spending whole day, so you should leave plenty of time to get there.
